A City on Our Knees

city on our knees
Listen to this song by TobyMac it is exactly what this world needs right now…

Last night there was a shooting in Orlando, Florida at a nightclub. I’m not one hundred percent sure of the exact number but over fifty people were killed by a man who apparently called the police and pledged his allegiance to Isis before taking people hostage and proceeding to open fire on the people in this club. It was a gay club. I don’t agree in any way with the gay lifestyle, but a person is a person and no one deserves what happened last night to happen to anyone no matter who they are or how they choose to live. This massacre happened almost exactly a year after the killing of the Emmanuel AME Nine. Abba we live in such a flawed and fallen world that this seems to be commonplace and it is only getting worse. The blatant evil that seems to be roaming the streets as of late killng without remorse and the blatant evil that seems to be taking the name Isis and terrorizing countries and their people. It’s like every day we wake up to a new evil. This week alone has been a series of killing after killing, each progressively worse than the previous. It was an act of hate and an act of terrorism and regardless of these people’s  lifestyle and anyone’s opinion of it, they are still a part of God’s greatest creation- mankind.

God made us ALL in His image and He gave each of us a specific piece of Him. We are all unique which means that we all have different interests and make different choices about things. Just like the good parts of us are different we sin differently as well. However, at the end of the day all sin deserves death whether it’s a “small” or a “big” sin. Jesus dying on the cross is our saving grace. We are all sinners saved by grace and we are not the deciding factor of whether or not someone makes it into heaven. God is. If we were no one would make it in because our standards are finicky a best. Our only job on earth is to love God and love each other.

It really breaks my heart that we have fallen so far away from God as people and as a country. And as Christians we need to be fighting in prayer. We need to be a city on our knees and until we start praying for God to come in and shake us we will continue to be lost. I have to admit though, I don’t know how to fight in prayer…but I am learning.  I know that I get distracted a lot and I have really selfish moments but I want to learn how to truly fight these battles and how to fight in prayer. I want to do my part as a member of the body of Christ to pray for our fallen world to turn from our wicked ways and seek God’s face because only then will He hear us from heaven and heal our land. (2 chron. 7:14) I want to be a light in this dark world.
