First things first, I know it’s almost Saturday again but #GeauxTigers LSU beat BAMA and it still feels great! I’m so proud of my Tigers! ππππ PS Keep it up this weekend at Ole Miss!
Fun Fact #5: I am a Lakers fan.
Like, I don’t want to hear you talk bad about them when they are doing bad and bandwaggoners can move along. I’ve been loyal since the 90s, when we were a dynasty, with Shaq and Kobe, Rick Fox, Robert Horry, Karl Malone, Derek Fisher and Devon George…when Phil Jackson was the coach. I bleed purple and gold, and not just for my tigers.
Let me explain, because anyone who knows me also knows that being from Louisiana, I am a Saints fan so I dislike the Rams to the highest extent. But I’ve never been a Pelicans (or N. O. Hornets) fan. When I was little my mom’s older brother was a Lakers fan. I didn’t watch anything much except Disney and Nickelodeon so I wasn’t much interested in watching the playoffs. But my uncle came over one night to watch the game. I don’t even remember if it was the first game in the series or the last but I was hooked. I was officially a basketball fan, and it was all thanks to the Los Angeles Lakers.
While I really liked the team at this point I can’t say I was a true fan. I mean I was most definitely a Karl Malone fan (I mean…come on) but I can’t say that the Lakers were my team yet.
Fast forward to 8th grade gifted English, we were given this assignment. We had to write a letter and send it. By this point it was pretty well known that I liked the Lakers. I had a friend who was obsessed with Kobe, I liked him too but Malone was my dude. Him and Robert Horry (Like I became a Spurs too fan for a hot second when Horry got traded lol). I chose to write to the Lakers. I sent the letter off, got an A on the assignment and forgot about it. A few months later a letter came in the mail addressed to me.
It was from the Lakers.
More precisely it was from their fan club. It was pretty generic with just some stickers and a letter from the team. To be honest I think it was more the fact that they took the time to even send anything to a fan that was so amazing to me than anything else. If I wasn’t already such a fan, that sealed my fate, I have been a fan ever since.
When Kobe played his final game I was up watching despite having a 7:30 am class the next morning. Although if I’m honest I don’t watch much during the regular season unless it’s a game I really want to see. The last few seasons when the Lakers have been building and struggling, I still loved them (I was salty that we were struggling so much but they are still my team). When they brought Lebron to LA, I wasn’t sure how I felt about that, but I was optimistic. when they traded everyone it felt like for AD I was skeptical, and when Dwight Howard came back I was like…freaking really?! (I’m not a fan of him like at all tbh) But I love my team let’s see what happens.
So far so good.
I like being proven wrong.
And I LOVE watching my guys win.
