Fun fact #7: I was born in New Orleans

Well technically, I was born in Gretna, La. but I was raised in New Orleans until I was 14 when my family was displaced after hurricane Katrina and moved to Missouri. Because of this, from time to time I have an accent that is hard for people not from here to understand. You see, I talk really fast, especially when I get angry. When I lived in Missouri it was a struggle to slow down my speech so everyone could understand me. I lived for summers back home where I could talk at a normal speed.

Growing up I couldn’t wait to leave New Orleans. I had it all planned out. I was gonna go to college at Louisiana State University (LSU) since they were purple and gold just like the Lakers and my high school, then move to California and work for the Lakers or to Atlanta because that’s where Bow Wow lived (ugh the childhood obsession was REALπŸ˜‚).

Obviously life panned out a lot differently, for one I didn’t graduate from my school in New Orleans, I graduated from school in Missouri. My high school there did have purple and gold as their colors though, so that was pretty awesome. But when I went to college originally I didn’t go to LSU, I went to school in Oklahoma. I was miserable, so I transferred to The Tuskegee Institute in Alabama. I loved it but, when I changed my major they didn’t have it. It wasn’t until I went to a 4th school that I came to LSU.

I haven’t actually lived in the city of New Orleans since I was 14 but I visit often. My family is there. The Saints are there (Who Dat ⚜). And while I still don’t think I want to live there ever again, I love my city. New Orleans has the best food, people, festivals and so much more. It is a part of me. Anyone who has ever been there knows how magical it can be. The history there is amazing and the culture there is like no place else. I’m a little biased but it’s true. And this weekend the Saints play the 49rs for the #1 seed in the playoffs, LSU plays Georgia for the SEC championship title and Southern plays Alcorn for the SWAC championship title, I can’t wait.
