Breathe

When you are not breathing there is no movement in your body and when there is no movement tension cannot be released.

I heard this this line, or something close to it during my daily yoga workout and it really stuck with me.

A big part of why I like yoga so much is because a lot of times the meditation during the workouts can be applied to life. Granted, I believe this can be true of all workout types if you let it. But with yoga it is almost impossible not to apply it to life. The practice itself is all about breath and balance in multiple ways and areas.

But today was about breathing, and if you are familiar with the practice you know how important it is to breathe. When this particular line was delivered, we were in pigeon pose which is a hip opening pose that is really one of my favorites. In any static pose it is especially important to breathe because the goal is to increase blood ๏ฌ‚ow which in turn increases flexibility thus opening up the stretch just a bit more every time you do it.

Not unlike life when it gets tough. Sometimes it is best to stop and get your bearings, but you cannot stay there. You must start moving. You have to let the tension be released. You cannot stop walking your path because life got hard. You keep breathing. You keep moving.

This reminds me of Psalm 27 in the Bible. The essence of the entire psalm is to breathe through whatever is coming against you and trust that God will not let you down. Verse 14 specifically says “be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord”

So, as you take your flow remember that the God of the universe is right there with you. He never leaves.

His greatness is in you because He lives in you.

Namaste.
